Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about our on-chain identity? Find answers to the most common questions and learn how our platform helps you to register your identity.

What is PolkaIdentity?

PolkaIdentity is a self-sovereign decentralized identity platform that lets you create, own, and control your digital identity. Your Decentralized Identity (DID) acts as a universal credential for Web3, enabling secure access to DeFi, DAOs, token-gated communities, and more—without relying on centralized intermediaries.

How does PolkaIdentity protect my data?

Your data is stored on a decentralized network, ensuring no single entity misuse it.

What happens if I lose my wallet or private keys?

Your DID is tied to your blockchain address. PolkaIdentity cannot recover lost keys—this ensures true decentralization and user ownership. We recommend using non-custodial wallets (e.g., Talisman, Nova Wallet) with backup/recovery features, or storing private keys offline in secure hardware wallets.

Is PolkaIdentity free?

Basic DID creation is not free (0.7 DOT) and advanced features (e.g., expedited registrar verification) may incur higher (yet cheap) fees.

Can I update my DID details?

In general, most of information maybe be updated

How do registrars ensure my identity is trustworthy?

Registrars are vetted, independent validators who review your submitted information (IDs, social accounts) to assign a trust score (e.g., “Known Good”). This process prevents fake accounts and Sybil attacks, ensures your DID is recognized as credible across Web3, and maintains decentralization—no single entity controls verification.
